From Ammoudara to Malia
Join us for a special half-day Lasithi Plateau Tour and explore one of the most peaceful and traditional areas of Crete. This trip offers a mix of nature, village life, and ancient legends.
We start with a visit to the Monastery of Kera Kardiotissa, a serene place cared for by local nuns. Inside, you’ll find 14th-century frescoes and a famous icon of the Virgin Mary, believed by many to be miraculous. The artwork here gives a glimpse into Crete’s deep religious roots.
From there, we head into the heart of the Lasithi Plateau—an 850-meter-high green valley surrounded by the Dikti Mountains. The area is dotted with 18 small villages where life still follows the old Cretan ways. You'll see traditional white windmills and historic Venetian ditches used for farming in past centuries.
Next, we visit the village of Psychro, home to the legendary Dicteon Cave—said to be the birthplace of Zeus. Inside, the cave features impressive stalactites and stalagmites. Psychro is also known for pottery, and you’ll get to watch local artisans craft ceramics using time-honored techniques.
(If the cave is closed, we’ll spend a bit more time at the other locations.)
Our final stop is Tzermiado, the largest village on the plateau. With its stone houses and mountain views, it's the perfect place to relax and enjoy a delicious lunch in a local taverna before heading back.
This tour is a great way to see the natural beauty, traditions, and myths of Crete—all in one morning.
